GULF TENSIONS FLARE AS SAUDI ARABIA SHOOTS IRANIAN FISHING BOATS, KILLS FISHERMAN

"Two fishing boats were in the Persian Gulf and strayed due to high waves. The Saudi coastguard say the boats entered Saudi waters and killed one of the fishermen," Majid Aghababaie, head of border affairs at the interior ministry, said in a statement published by Iranian media.

"We are pursuing this matter to determine if the Iranian boats had crossed the Saudi border or not, but the action of the Saudis does not comply with humanitarian and navigational principles," Aghababaie said.

"Even if the boats had entered Saudi waters, the coastguard were not authorised to open fire," Aghababaie added.

It looks like Saudi Arabia wants some kind of confrontation with Iran, to drive the oil price higher (recent production cuts did little to the price), and/or because they are hacked off with Russia-Iranian success in Syria, and/or for Iranian support(?) in the war in Yemen, where Saudi forces have had their asses handed to them on a number of occasions. Expect more of these provocations, since there has been little international reaction to what's happened thus far. I think these (Saudi Arabia) countries are now realising (the penny has dropped) that the UN is not going to 'do' anything.
