Ecuador grants asylum to Assange - FULL SPEECH by FM Ricardo Patino

Ecuador has granted political asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange - READ MORE UK foreign office says regrets Ecuador decision, first half of speech condemned UK's threats to storm embassy. Before the announcement UK said Assange would be refused safe passage even if Ecuador grants asylum - READ MORE

It is utterly disgraceful that Ecuador is standing up for the rights of an Australian citizen while his home country does nothing. If Swedish prosecutors want to interview Assange they can come to London. Nothing is stopping them.

Sweden's close ties to the USA do indeed represent a threat to Assange's human rights in this context. The US is a country with the Patriot Act, the National Defence Authorisation Act plus has a history of rendition and torture.

Remember, Assange has not been charged with any crime.

(Please note that Wikileaks is a likely target of disinformation. DO NOT believe the material coming out of that organisation. If you or I were in charge of the CIA, or MI6, how would you use Wikileaks ?)
