U.S. Africa Command.

Some analysts argue that the US' Africa command signals the continent's emerging strategic importance, but others believe it is a sign of an oil-fueled power grab. http://www.globalpolicy.org/empire/intervention/2007/0219afrcommand.htm

More wars for oil and the backing of US friendly dictatorships for US economic gain - all at the expense of local populations.

Currently the Africa Command is looking to establish a headquarters in an African country. This will probably be Ethiopia who they are supporting against Eritrea. The situation here centres around a border dispute in which Eritrea had been granted a town that the Ethiopians claim. The US is playing power politics, backing the stronger country, against international law, in an effort to curry favour to get their base.
