Syria Factions and Fictions Part 1 - Ry

Note: There were initially pro-democracy (incited?) protests in Daraa in late April 2011, against which there was a police crackdown. Subsequent to this crackdown, in the following weeks, there began sniper attacks on police and later military. The Assad Government tried to de-escalate the situation by taking action against the local Governing authorities but the killings of police (and then military continued). This is how the war started and then slid out of control. Ry is right to point out that these opposition groups had been armed BEFORE any of the pro-democracy protests began. The former French Foreign minister Roland Dumas explained on TV that he had been approached 2 years before the fighting broke out to help plan a revolt within Syria:
