Stasi 2.0: 'NSA Using Same illegal Spy Tactics from Cold War'

When leaked files from the US National Security Agency revealed that the American spies had been keeping close tabs on a key ally - Germany - the government there was furious, comparing the practices to those of the East Germany's notorious secret police. RT's Peter Oliver met with a veteran of that service - to find out just how similar the two really are.

The importance of the NSA spying is that it has been used to blackmail individuals in power. While a lot of people don't care if their correspondence is being recorded, people like judges, police, media and politicians can be subject to blackmail so they will act in the interests of the Security State (and corporations tied to the State).
